Lean Six Sigma

Benefits Of Lean Six Sigma In The IT Sector

This article I am recognizing the many benefits of Lean Six Sigma in the IT sector. I believe that Lean Six Sigma can help IT professionals with their company’s growth, if they have a sincere mindset.

Many IT organizations are under pressure to improve their service and process capability. In the quest for improvement methodologies, these businesses often adopt a “pick one” strategy. However, it is possible to integrate Lean and Six Sigma and reap the full benefits that these methodologies can bring to the table.

For businesses to be successful, they must work hard to go above and beyond. Lean Six Sigma is a rigorous method of eliminating defects in any process. It is a data-driven approach and methodology for ensuring near perfection. This approach must not produce more than 3.4 defective results per million opportunities. In order to achieve lean six sigma quality, businesses must focus on improving their processes, rather than simply making products or providing services.

Although Six Sigma originally focused on manufacturing. However, when applied to IT, Six Sigma focuses on processes. The goal of Six Sigma in IT is to better measure and improve internal processes (such as network speed and reliability) and line-of-business processes (in which IT has a role) such as how well an e-commerce site works or how well your IT support system functions.

Many big companies have their own unique version of Six Sigma. Honeywell, Textron, and others have created their own versions that are tailored to their line of business. Other organizations fine-tune the DMAIC model as needed. Chase Financial added a step called ‘implement’.

Wipro, an Indian IT giant based in Bangalore, is one of the largest IT services and product engineering companies in the world. They have more than 100,000 employees and 70 delivery centers in 55 countries. Wipro’s Global IT Consulting Services has been successful because of their implementation and perfection of lean practices.

Lean Six Sigma offers your IT process the following benefits:

  • Improve efficiency and effectiveness of the business and IT processes
  • Reduce overall operating costs
  • Improve customer experience
  • Deliver quicker results with business value
  • Improve workforce productivity
  • Improve quality of performance of products and services
  • Enabled service capability and stability with operational efficiency and control

Lean Six Sigma and project management techniques can be used to improve IT processes, information technology decisions, and software development. These techniques are also useful in customer service, data warehousing, and designing user interfaces.

Six Sigma is a well-known business strategy. Most IT executives approve of it. However, you need to know that Six Sigma is not a specific set of tools. It’s a system which contains many tools and strategies. You must decide which tools to use based on your needs and goals.
