Open Excel workbooks in separate windows

Excel opens each Excel workbook within a parent Excel window by default. It makes it hard to work on multiple Excel workbooks side by side or across several monitors. Today’s tip tells you how to change the setting of Excel 2010 to open multiple workbooks in their own windows.

Open the registry editor (Press the Windows key and the R key together, type regedit and press the ENTER key).
Locate the following registry keyHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Excel.Sheet.8/shell/Open/command

On the right hand, right click (Default) and change its value from “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE” /dde to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE” /e “%1″

On the right hand, right click command and select rename. It can be renamed to anything such as commandbk so that it will be ignored.
Locate the following registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Excel.Sheet.8/shell/Open/ddeexec Select the ddeexec folder, right click on command and select rename. It can be renamed to anything such as ddeexecbk so that it will be ignored.

Locate the following registry keyHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Excel.Sheet.12/shell/Open/command
On the right hand, right click on (Default) and change its value from “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE” /dde to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE” /e “%1″
On the right hand, right click on command and select rename to rename it to anything such as commandbk so that it will be ignored.

Close regedit.
